In the first p ilot study, six female junior college students asked to organize 13 color cards according to their preferred order and name each color card freely. The c olo r names produced by the participants were divided into six categories. Participants produced various non common color names and displayed individual differences. The participants in the second pilot study comprised four female junior college students and two male art specialists. They were asked to sort 13 color cards following the same procedure as that used in pilot study 1 and to name each color card in order for ot hers to collate the cards in the same order. Color names used in pilot study 2 displayed the same tendenc ies as those in pilot study 1. However, there are differences in the two art specialists’ responses.
