Today people seem to take life for granted. Because "life" seems to be fading away from people's consciousness, the authors of this paper considered that it might be necessary to provide educational sessions on life and death to Early Childhood Education (ECE) students, who work with young lives everyday. To determine if such educational sessions are beneficial to the students, a series of five sessions was provided to them. Those sessions provided opportunities for the students to examine their feelings about life and death through lectures and group work. At the end of the five sessions many students reported that, although "death" was a subject which they preferred to avoid, they now realized that to think about death made them think about how they wanted to live. Thus, the positive feedback from the students may indicate that "life and death" are important subjects to be included in the training of early childhood educators. There seem to be many ways to deliver such educational sessions. Further studies are needed to determine effective ways to educate ECE students on the subject. |
